3/10/2024 0 Comments Divorce rate in arranged marriagesThe most common household chores performed by non-household members were whitewashing/painting with 54.3 percent, minor maintenance and repair work with 25.2 percent and weekly/monthly cleaning of the house with 8.8 percent. In contrast, the divorce rate for love marriages is much higher, up to 40 percent. Although about 50 of traditional marriages in the United States end in divorce, the rate for arranged marriage is lower. The works undertaken by mostly household members were laying and cleaning the table with 97.5 percent, dishwashing with 97.4 percent, and serving tea in the evenings with 97.0 percent. According to recent experiments and results, most divorces actually come from love marriages, and the divorce rate for arranged marriages is as low as 4 percent. Statistics shows that only 1 out of 100 Indian marriages end up to a divorce which is quite low in comparison to America’s 50 of marriages turning into breakups. No matter how the marriage began, if it falls apart, divorce is still an option. We must also take into account the social acceptance of divorce within the two countries. Arranged marriage is not unheard of here either, however, and in the groups that still abide by this method, the divorce rate is significantly lower than average. The family survey also showed that all housework, except for painting the house, was generally undertaken by one household member in 2021. But it is more surprising to know that the divorce rate in India ranks lowest among all the countries of the world. While it is true that the divorce rates for arranged marriages in India (2) are significantly less than those of love marriages in the United States (45), we cannot judge arranged marriage success rates on statistics alone. On the contrary, the proportion of elderly individuals being visited several times a week by their children was around 56.7 percent. Some 83.1 percent of individuals thought that children should take care of their parents in their old age. The most important reason for divorce in 2021 was the “irresponsible and careless attitude of their partner,” with some 33 percent agreeing to it.Ĭheating was the second reason with 14.1 percent, while financial problems became the third reason with nearly 10 percent. Around 30 percent of them stated that they prioritize education, while 12 percent said they do not have enough income yet to afford getting married.Īround 10 percent said they did not “meet a suitable person” to marry yet. Eighty out of every 100 people over the age of 15 do not plan to marry in the next three years.
